"Families for Great Hershey Schools" Announces Campaign: Cronin, Grab, Hagan, Morelli on school board ticket (March 17, 2009 - Hershey) - A political action committee has been formed in support of four candidates for Derry Township School Director. "Families for Great Hershey Schools is supporting incumbents Donna Cronin and John Grab, and newcomers Mary Beth Hagan and Chris Morelli," announced Mark Winter, -chairman of the committee. "We believe this team can bring a new level of thinking and community involvement to the oversight and decision-making of the school board." All four candidates filed their paperwork and petitions last week. "Our schools define our community, so our whole community must be given the opportunity to share their talents and ideas to help us succeed in providing great schools for Hershey," said Winter. "The candidates that make up this ticket have a long history of working to improve our community." Cronin, Grab, Hagan and Morelli are united in their commitment to the children, parents and taxpayers of the Derry Township School District. Their "open community discussion" approach will provide a fresh start in establishing confidence and community consensus in board decisions regarding academics, taxes, safety, spending, staffing and facilities. Morelli cites the importance in "giving special attention and consideration to all financial issues and decisions regarding our school, while the community and country navigate the current recession." He adds that their group "will strive to take what is a good school and make it better, by reviewing current and past practices and recommending change." Grab agrees, stating, "We are all committed to ensuring the continuation of the outstanding educational opportunities offered to Derry Township students, as well as, preserving and enhancing the property values of Derry Township's taxpayers by providing an exceptional school system. Hagan "looks forward to providing Hershey with approachable school board members who will listen to the concerns of all of our citizens and represent them with integrity while ensuring that all students of Derry Township are provided with a first class education." "If people believe in any one of us, it is important that they realize that they need ALL of us on the board in order to make a real difference in how we are able to both represent and include them." states Cronin. "The challenges we face are too tough for the board to go it alone or trust just a handful of `experts'," Winter said. "What's important is that we as citizens truly know the issues we face and have sufficient information so that we can contribute to solutions, or at least understand what facts are behind a board decision we may disagree with." The primary election is on Tuesday, May 21st.

Hershey open to combination, Cadbury eyed: reportNEW YORK (Reuters) - "The charitable trust that controls a majority of Hershey Co.'s voting rights has reversed its opposition to a possible merger, perhaps opening the way to a combination with Britain's Cadbury Schweppes, the Wall Street Journal said on Saturday. Mar 31, 2007 "Workers at The Hershey Company’s two union plants in Derry Township last night voted overwhelmingly to adopt a plan that will result in a work-force reduction of 600 to 650 jobs over the next three years." Hershey selling out?HERSHEY, Pa., Mar. 29 /preservehershey.org/ A previous management figure of 15 plus years in Hershey Foods indicated today that he believes the company is dispersing its work force as part of a plan to sell the company. Recently when Wrigley's was interested in purchasing Hershey Foods the community caused such an uproar that the company backed down. Now the plan appears to be to eliminate much of the local opposition by eliminating local workers. This report is from a reliable management individual that left the company due to various concerns with the way the company does its business.
